IJver is a café-restaurant in a former shipbuilding shed at the NDSM shipyard, right in the middle of Amsterdam Noord. Here, you dine among steel, wood and high industrial windows, at tables where you can easily linger all afternoon. We are open all day, so you can just as easily drop in for a cup of coffee as for an extensive dinner. We are here for the neighbourhood and for everyone walking around the shipyard, from the regular to the visitor who has just crossed over on the ferry. For some we are the second living room around the corner, for others the address where an afternoon on the site ends. The fact that you have to leave the centre for that is precisely the gain, because here you have space and you are not in the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Our kitchen cooks with the seasons, with French class and Amsterdam cosiness as its permanent foundation. Exactly what is on offer shifts throughout the year, which is best read on the menu itself. We have separate menus for each part of the day, so during the day something different is ready than in the evening. You are just as welcome to pull up a chair for a little something with your coffee as for a complete dinner. An old shipbuilding shed full of steel and graffiti

The NDSM shipyard was once the place where ocean-going ships were built, and you can still see that everywhere. Between the old halls there are now studios, walls full of street art and grounds where festivals land in the summer. Our warehouse sits right in the middle of all that, with the steel structure still completely visible. Inside, we have turned it into a warm-industrial venue, with wood, soft light and plenty of space so you never feel rushed. Local residents from North sit here alongside visitors who have just walked out of an exhibition. That makes eating at the NDSM different from grabbing a table in the city centre, because you are sitting in a piece of Amsterdam heritage that is still very much in use.

From early coffee to late drinks

Our door opens every day at 10:00 and after that the day just flows on. In the morning it is quiet, with coffee at a table by the high windows, and around midday the warehouse slowly fills up. If you want to eat during the day, you can enjoy a full meal with us having lunch on the building site. In the evening it transitions to dinner, and afterwards people stay for a good time at the bar, where 20 draught beer taps with a changing selection are ready. The terrace is also part of it, as it is in use all year round. So from early morning coffee to a late-night drink, you don't need to go anywhere else here.

Dining on the wharf

As soon as it gets dark, the warehouse changes character, as the daylight from the high windows makes way for lamps that softly illuminate the steel. You join us for dinner after a day at the shipyard, after an exhibition, or simply because you live in Noord and don't want to go into the city. At our tables nobody has to rush, so an evening here easily runs on until long after dinner. If you are looking for a dinner in Amsterdam Noord that feels more like coming home than going out, you've come to the right place. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday we stay open until past midnight, so you can easily stay put.

You can find us at Scheepsbouwkade 72, 1033 WM Amsterdam, on the NDSM wharf site. From Amsterdam Central Station, you take the ferry to the NDSM and you are straight onto the wharf. By bike, you can get there from the centre via Noord, and by car, you drive there via the road. If you are coming from further away, it helps to check the route in advance. You walk in, find a spot in the warehouse or outside, and we will take care of the rest. If you want to be sure that a table is waiting for you, just make a reservation in advance. We are here every day, from the first coffee to the last round.

You can make a reservation directly via the button on this page. Walking in without a reservation is always allowed, although with a reserved table you are more guaranteed a spot on a busy evening. Dressed smartly or straight off the bike, it makes no difference to us. If you are coming with a larger party, please check our options for groups, because then we'll sort it out with you in advance.
