You don't need to know anything about beer to drink something good here, as you'll simply be given a suggestion that is close to what you normally have. A map that keeps changing

The entire bar is lined with beer taps. There's always a lager on there for anyone who wants to keep it simple, but the majority of the row is reserved for beers that come and go. Opposite the bar there is also a wall of fridges with fifty bottled beers, which you are welcome to browse yourself. Some stay for a whole season, others sell out after a couple of weeks and make way for something else. Because of this, the menu is never completely the same twice and on every visit there is something new to try that you didn't know yet.

Asking is allowed, knowledge is not required

A wall with twenty taps can be overwhelming if you don't know where to start. You don't have to either. Tell us what you normally drink, or conversely what you don't like, and you'll get a few options to choose from. If you're still in doubt after that, we'll pour a small sample so you can smell and taste it first. If you'd rather not drink alcohol, you don't have to resort to sparkling water. There's an alcohol-free lager on tap and the menu has its own alcohol-free range, from radler to blond and dunkelweizen. The idea is that you arrive at your table with something you like, not that you get a course to go with it.

Walking in without a plan

You don't need to arrange anything in advance for a beer. You just walk in, find a spot in the shed or outside on the terrace, and there's nothing else to it. By the end of the afternoon it fills up with people who have just finished work at the yard, and at weekends it's busy from afternoon till evening. If you're coming with a larger group, we'd appreciate it if you let us know.

What you eat with it

Here, you don’t have to drink beer on its own. The kitchen is open all day, so you can just as easily pop in for a bite to eat as for a full dinner. The snacks menu features the best accompaniments to a beer, from things to share to a platter that’s perfect for four people to tuck into. If you end up staying longer than you planned, you can simply carry on eating.

This is how you get to IJver

You will find us at Scheepsbouwkade 72, 1033 WM Amsterdam, on the NDSM wharf site. From Amsterdam Central Station, you take the ferry to the NDSM and you are straight on the wharf. By bike, you can get there from the centre via Noord, and by car, you drive there via the road. All details are on the contact page, along with our opening hours.
